• On holiday
• Ceuta is the ideal place for day-trips to the north of Morocco. Get to know another country, another culture, and another way of life, and you can return to sleep in Europe, on the same day.
• Passing through
• If you are only passing through Ceuta, we recommend you take a brief panoramic tour of the city (approx. 1 hour), to take first look at its surprising history and natural surroundings. Visit the shops, to stock up before crossing the border, since the products may be more expensive or difficult to find.
- Fuel (much less expensive).
- Medicines (E.U. regulated).
- Alcoholic beverages (less expensive in Ceuta and very difficult to find over there).
- If you are planning to buy handicrafts or leather goods, buy them in Ceuta: the prices and the products are practically the same, with the advantage that you do not have to carry them with you throughout the entire trip.

Useful Information
Language
In Northern Morocco they speak a dialect of Arabic (Dariya), and many people speak Spanish and/or French. French is the usual language in the Institutions. In the north of the country, Spanish has been, for historical and cultural reasons, the normal second language.
Time Zone
Remember that Morocco is 1 hour behind (2 hours behind during summer time) Ceuta and the rest of mainland Spain.
Currency
The official currency of Morocco is the Dirham; 1 euro is approximately 11-12 dirhams. You can exchange currency at any bank in Ceuta. If you are in a hurry or you forget, you will find an exchange office at the Moroccan border post, after you go through customs.
Documentation
You must have a passport to go to Morocco, and you must complete a short form that you must pick up at the windows opened for that purpose (number 4 for foreigners). Hand over your passport and the form and wait to be allowed in. Your passport will then be returned with the stamp and the date of entry. Remember that the maximum stay for tourists in Morocco is 3 months.
If you will be taking your vehicle, you must complete another form with the vehicle data and submit it with your driving licence and the green insurance card (as well as your stamped passport). Your documentation will be returned to you, along with two copies of the form (one green and the other white), which you must keep with you until you leave the country. When you leave Morocco, it is very important that the documentation be stamped. The vehicle owner and the driver must be the same person. Otherwise, authorisation is required from the owner.
I don't have a passport...
Contact the travel agencies in Ceuta about organised day-trips to Morocco; in some cases, all you need is your National Identification Card or Document.
Transport
From the Moroccan border, the only mode of transport available is the taxi. The 'Grands Taxis' cover interurban routes and tend to be old Mercedes. Each taxi has 6 seats that may be shared (collective taxi: 4 in the back and 2 in the front) or you can pay for the taxi in full. The most common routes from the border are to Tetuan and Tangiers. In each province (Wilaya) they are a different colour; in Tetuan they are blue. Once in the cities, the 'Petit Taxi' are the most comfortable, fast and economic means of travelling.
